LOFOTEN WOOL

By Ragnhild Lie

When she realised that Norway’s home-grown wool was largely exported abroad, whilst local knitters were sat at home working with imported yarn, she decided to build an audience-oriented workshop around native breed sheep, wool and craft, based at her small farm.

In 2013 the first Old Norse Sheep arrived at the farm, and the following year Lofoten Wool was launched.

“Sustainability has been at the heart of everything they we do. Our focus on local production, traditional craft skills and high-quality products has won us recognition both at home and abroad. Everything we do is rooted in the mindset that quality should endure over time, and that a sustainable, low impact approach is the best way to achieve this”

LOFOTLYS

By Alexandra & Matias

Lofotlys are handpicked sea urchins, made into decorative lights.

Aleandra and Matias go diving in arctic waters and freezing temperatures to locate and capture the urchins. Then they are made into Lofotlys by removing the spikes, cleaning them and finally drilling a hole for a small Led light. It’s all worth it when they see the beauty of nature light up.

The sea urchins eat and destroy the much needed kelp forest, and are considered an unwanted species. Kelp is considered "Norways rain forrest" since it produces so much oxygen and the sea urchins have already removed 50 % of the Norwegian kelp forrest. If you buy a Lofotlys you not only get an exotic decorative light, but you also contribute to important environmental work.

HVILEPULS

By Therese egge belgum

Therese designs and knit everything herself by hand. For the designs, she gets all her inspiration from Lofoten, where she lives.

When she doesn`t chill with the knitting on her lap, she`s usually out surfing, climbing, kayaking or snowboarding. If the waves are not too big, or the mountain too steep, this is also where she gets the "hvilepuls" (resting pulse).

"I hope my products keep you nice and warm, and that you get the motivation to go outside and enjoy the nature, as much as i do." - Therese
